Meet the Counsellor - Lyn Le
My personal experience…
Having a loss of identity is challenging as you realise you never had one, or started to lose yourself in the process of living. It also doesn’t help when you have other hurdles, like low self-esteem and insecurities, that challenge who you are. When I realised I didn’t know who I was, I felt defeated.
Families can be difficult. There’s usually more than one individual that you are facing everyday. This means each of these individuals have their own characteristics that can challenge your peace at home. To me, family is a constant battle. However, I have learnt to work through it, and make peace where I can.
Relationships is complex… Everyone has their own trauma or triggers that are carried from childhood, past experiences or past relationships. As a result, it makes communication much more challenging. Instead of working as a team or partners, you’re left hopelessly wondering when things will change for the better. That constant waiting… it eats you up slowly.
Depression is a hard rut to be in. Sometimes, you may look like you’re moving effortlessly, but realistically, there is so much heaviness to your move. Behind closed doors, no one knows how much pain you are in, and how exceptionally difficult it can be to do simple tasks like getting out of bed.
Anxiety is crippling. It truly feels like paralysis and being frantic all at the same time. Your thoughts run endlessly. You just can’t help but feel scared, and want to run away whenever and wherever you can. Social anxiety was my killer at one stage of my life.
These are my challenges that I worked on overtime. If you resonated with these, there’s a reason why. Perhaps, I can help you feel supported during this process.
